Cladding - Testimonials

Plymouth City Council
Plymouth City, like many others, is reviewing its housing stock to ensure that it meets the Decent Housing Standard.

Cadre Stonechip was chosen by Plymouth City Council to refurbish a number of BISF properties at Honicknowle, in Plymouth, Devon. Cadre Stonechip is the first stonechip product to be supplied in tongue and groove strips, providing a long awaited alternative to conventional wet render, PVCu or timber. Cadre Stonechip offers significant cost-savings and installation options that conform to the latest building and environmental legislation.

Karl Donegan, Team Leader for Programmed Maintenance at Plymouth City Council explains: ‘The BISF properties were being over-clad and we needed to leave the existing metal sheeting in situ. The weight of the cladding was a prime consideration and Cadre Stonechip’s lightweight design provided the ideal solution.

‘From a maintenance point of view, we needed to eliminate any major costs for future maintenance and painting. Whilst the appearance of Cadre Stonechip was perfect for our properties, we were also impressed by the lifespan of the product and its minimal cleaning requirements. Furthermore, the residents are absolutely delighted with the final appearance of their homes and some are already reporting a noticeable savings on their fuel bills.’

Mr Maurice Inkster, Hamnavoe, Shetland Islands
Hamnavoe is a small village on the west coast of the Shetland Islands. Because of the exposed location, properties in the village take a pounding from the weather, and particularly from Atlantic storms. When Maurice Inkster, a resident in Hamnavoe, needed to replace the original Harling, a dry dash finish on the upper storey of his house, he wanted an alternative that would give a maintenance-free, smart appearance, with excellent weather-resistant properties.

Mr Inkster said ‘I had seen some Cadre Stonechip being used on other buildings locally. Chipping off and replacing the dry dash render on my house would have been a huge job. I considered timber cladding but this wasn’t an option due to fire regulations and the proximity of the boundary.

‘We chose Cadre Ravena Stonechip as it had an attractive appearance which was in keeping with the original render finish of our house. Whilst installation instructions recommend installing Stonechip on timber battens at 600mm centres, we decided to position our battens at 300mm centres because of the exposed location.’

The installation was carried out for us by a local building contractor J & E Halcrow and was very straightforward. We are delighted with the result.’
